Update #2020-01 – WHAT A YEAR!!
What a powerful year at PCA. 2019 has truly been a wonderful year that is now forever imprinted into the history of PCA. We may never fully know the eternal impact for the kingdom, but we know that God is recording everything and has promised not to forget our work (Hebrews 6:10). We are so grateful your kingdom work is partnering with us to Change a Generation of children for the glory of Christ.
GRADUATION 2019 – CLASS OF 2030
We are so proud of our 28 kindergarten students who represent our 3rd preschool graduating class at Palacaguina Christian Academy. These promising students will now enter primary school at PCA and we cannot wait to see what the future has in store. Regardless of what their future may hold, we are committed to nurture and guide them with the love and grace of Jesus Christ as they navigate the next 11 years of their lives. Praise God we can all partner together to give them the hope and opportunity every child deserves.
FLORIDA TRIP
What a wonderful time in Florida. It was so nice to see several of you and share all God has done in 2019. Special thanks to Christ Central Church, St Gabriel’s, Renewal Church, Rockledge United Methodist, and all who helped make this a successful trip for the school. Thank you!!
NICARAGUA TRIP
I will be making my annual January trip to Palacaguina to kick-off the next school year. Please pray for safe travels and for our teachers and staff as they work together to get the school and classrooms ready for our students to return in February. If you are interested in going to Palacaguina in 2020, we may have a trip the first week of July. More information on this trip to come.
FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY
In addition to hard economic times in Nicaragua, this year, the weather was not favorable and many in our community of Palacaguina suffered poor harvests this year. In response, many families requested help. The local government offices verified the need and responded with food. However, they needed help transporting the food into very hard to reach areas. PCA, having a 4×4 vehicle, partnered to help provide transportation of the food to families in severe need. Thank you God for allowing us to help these starving families.
HELPING OTHERS
PCA learned of an elderly couple living in extreme conditions of poverty. Don Pastor(95) and his wife Mrs. Doña Ramona(82) some days do not even have a match to light a fire. They are now without electricity as their service was cut off because they could not afford the bill which was less than $1.00. PCA was able to give this couple sanitary items, clothing, blankets and jackets for the cold winter nights as well as canned beans and mana packs to give them enough food for a month. Please pray we will be able to find local friends who will help provide regular help to the couple. And thank you Jesus for allowing us to reach out to them as the coldest nights are coming in the next few months.
TOYS FOR CHRISTMAS OUTREACH
We were blessed to be part of an outreach with the local ministry of education to provide toys for needy children in Palacaguina and surrounding communities. We provided transportation and assisted local officials to deliver toys to poor children in very hard to reach places. We look forward each year to this, bringing joy to children at Christmas who have so little. As a partner with PCA, you help make moments like this possible.

By next month’s update, we will finalize our current children needing a sponsor and our new students as well. Please pray God will open doors and hearts to get every child sponsored in 2020.
THANK YOU!!!
2019 has been a year full of God’s favor and loving on children and families with the love of Christ. Thank you for partnering with us. This work would not be possible without your sacrifice and partnership. We pray you can feel the impact and powerful difference you are making for all of our children and really the whole community of Palacaguina. May the Lord bless you and keep you as you continue to serve Him in all of His kingdom work. We look forward to seeing all God is going to do through you in 2020!

Update #201912 – FELIZ NAVIDAD
10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. – Luke 2:10-11
Possibly the most incredible verses in all of scripture as the angel announced our Savior’s birth. Our eternity was forever changed in an instant. As we enter this Advent season and look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus, we pray you will remember that Christmas is not about materialism and excess, but about the humble coming of our Lord and Savior that brought each of us the opportunity of salvation. As we come to the end of another amazing year at PCA, we are grateful to all of you who partner with us each month. We wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas from all of us at Palacaguina Christian Academy!!

PCA FLOATS (CARROZAS)
This year, we provided a fun competition for PCA students. The challenge: Create the best float (carrozas). The families and students had a wonderful time in this activity and as you can see they chose the theme of Christmas and were very creative. Events like this help our students, families and the community focus on more positive activities in the midst of a very difficult time in the country. We love seeing our children smile.
BETTER TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE
It truly is a blessing to give. We have begun this season of giving with a gift of food, clothing and sanitation items to our staff and teachers at PCA. As a thank you from us, these gifts will not only help their immediate family but their extended family in the community as well.
LOVING ON OUR SENIORS
PCA staff visited the local nursing home in Palacaguina to donate food and blankets as well as visit with the seniors living there. As we focus on impacting the children of Palacaguina, we must never forget to love and care for those who have gone before us to pave the way for our beloved community.

FRUIT DAY
I am so proud of how our teachers are creatively, working hard to educate and grow our students. In October we had our first “Fruit Day” where children were encouraged to bring healthy fruits to school and were taught the importance of healthy eating. We saw apples, grapes, coconut, mango, oranges, guayaba and bananas.
INDIGENOUS DAY
This month, our students celebrated the indigenous peoples of Nicaragua by dressing up and having a mini-parade to honor the historic peoples of Nicaragua. It was a fun day for the children and a good way for them to learn more of their beautiful history and culture.
READING COMPETITION
Such a proud moment for PCA as two of our first grade students placed 1st and 2nd place in a city-wide reading competition. This is a moment truly representing the impact PCA can have on the life and future of a child. I will be sharing the full story and backstory in detail at our events in Florida next month. We congratulate Erick Daniel and Andrea Nicole for their amazing accomplishment!! Erick will move up to represent the city of Palacaguina and PCA at the upcoming regional competition.

Update #201910 – ENCOURAGED AND BLESSED
What a blessed month we have had at PCA. God continues to provide for our bathroom project and the kids are doing wonderfully. Though we have had several attacks from the enemy this month, we are encouraged by this. We know the Devil does not attack unless God is about to do something big. So, we are eagerly awaiting what God is about to do through our ministry and through His people who are working with us to ensure the Gospel is shared and 115 children in Palacaguina have a strong future in Him!

And we are grateful for your faithfulness to be a part of what God is doing in Palcaguina.

With all the activity and progress of a strong year at PCA, we keep moving forward to accomplish the mission God has called us to. The current projects remind us there is so much left to do, but we know that God is faithful and will finish the work He has started at PCA. We are encouraged by the ways God continues to provide and bless us with the ongoing opportunities to pour into the community and lives of the children and families in Palacaguina. We are getting to make a real difference for real people and it is an honor serving with each of you, our prayer partners and sponsors, in this mission for the kingdom.

BLESSING EL TAMARINDO
El Tamarindo is a small village in the mountains near Palacaguina. Small communities such as El Tamarindo are struggling even more with the current economic situation in Nicaragua. In an effort to help, our teachers purchased meat and along with our school rice & beans cooked a meal and brought clothing, shoes and other donations for the children of the community. With a piñata and a movie to bring the children a little joy it was a wonderful outreach. Thank you to our teachers who are reaching out with the love of Christ.
THE RIGHT CHOICE
PCA continues to be the best choice for families in Palacaguina. Parents know that an education means a future for their children and we are honored when families choose PCA. Each new student means a new opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child and their family with the love of Christ. Please pray with us that as new children come, new sponsors will join as well to help make the difference. With that said, we welcome our new 1st grade student to PCA.
MEET ERICK DANIEL (1st Grade)
Erick is 7 years old and lives with his Mom and Dad in Palacaguina. Erick and his family recently moved to Palacaguina for work reasons. When his parents had to decide what the best opportunity is for Erick, we are grateful they chose PCA. We are looking forward to sharing the love of Christ with Erick and his family.
Remember as you share Erick with others that sponsorship not only provides a valuable education, but a meal every day, uniforms, books and supplies to help Erick attend and stay in school.
THANK YOU!!!
Looking back on all God has done and looking at all God is doing in Palacaguina, we cannot help but be grateful for all our partners and sponsors who God is using to make this possible. Update #201907 – SO MUCH TO DO
We have now reached half-way through the school year and how exciting it is to continue loving our kids with the love of Christ and build into their futures through a solid education. This school year has been such a blessing. But, in our joy, we are reminded of the projects we need to complete before January so we can open our 3rd grade classroom. We have about $30,500 worth of projects to complete. Please be praying for us as we work towards next year that God will open hearts and doors to make these much needed projects a reality. There is so much still to do, but we know that through God, all things are possible.

MEDICAL EVALUATIONS
In partnership with the Nicaragua Ministry of Health, nurses visited PCA to perform medical evaluations of our students including height, weight, vision, nutritional health and immunizations. This is an answer to prayer as we seek to ensure our students are doing well in their health as well as their education.
PCA ARBOR DAY (kind of)
To help reforest Nicaragua, we partnered with a group of youth backed by our local government office to plant trees in the green areas in and around PCA. The group of youth helped our 2nd grade students plant 50 trees as part of a classroom activity. In addition to planting the youth spoke to our students about the importance of trees and the value they bring to the environment.
SPONSORSHIP HIGHLIGHT
Meet two of our children needing sponsors this year. Sponsorship not only provides a valuable education for these children, but a meal every school day, uniforms, books and supplies. Please share these wonderful children and the opportunity to partner with PCA. You can see their full information page with this update.
MEET NOAN (PreK-3)
Noan is 3 years old and lives in the city of Palacaguina with his Mom and Dad. He is a cheerful little boy and likes to color and sing. He wants to be a doctor when he grows up to operate on his stuffed animals and people.
MEET ROXANA (PreK-3)
Roxana is 4 years old and lives in the Las Llantas community of Palacaguina with her Mom. She is a funny girl who likes to sing, dance and spend time with her best friend. Roxana would like to be a doctor one day to take care of her mommy.
ANF PARTNERSHIP
We were blessed again with many wonderful donations from the American Nicaragua Foundation (ANF). Praise God for this valuable partnership that provides us with Food, Furniture, Classroom Supplies and many other items each quarter. This quarter we received packaged food, teacher desks, a palet of school supplies, bathroom tissue and a Teddy Bear. Cannot wait to see what we do with the Teddy Bear. (The stuffed one that is. 🙂 )
PRAYER REQUESTS
- Pray every child will be sponsored for 2019 (we have 17)
- Pray for our new English volunteer’s health (she arrives in August)
- God’s provision for our construction projects this year ($30k)
THANK YOU!!!
It is always an honor each month to share with you the activities and ministry of PCA. Your prayers and your support make it possible for us to love and minister to the children and families of Palacaguina. We could not do this without each of you continuing to partner with us each month. Thank you for sharing your passion to make a difference with others and grow our family of partners who are allowing us to grow and open our doors to new students each year. Bless you and your heart to Change a Generation!!

Update #201906 – VERY STRONG YEAR
Update #201906 – VERY STRONG YEAR
This year is proving to be one of our strongest years yet. As we continue to grow we learn more and each day brings new opportunities to improve our processes and procedures. With so much pressure to expand our programs and so much need surrounding us, we are pacing ourselves and staying focused on our core mission to provide a quality education and the gospel of Jesus Christ. As the Lord provides, we will gladly expand, but for now, we are concentrating on solidifying what is in place and preparing for one year of growth at a time.
GOALS
We are so thankful for what God has provided, but we never want to become complacent or satisfied. With so much opportunity, we want to always strive to do more for the Kingdom and grow the impact of PCA in Palacaguina. As we pray and trust God to continually provide, we look forward to what is next. We wanted to share with you our main goals this year so you can be praying and believing with us:
- Finish our 3rd Grade Classroom by December 2019
- Finish perimeter fence for the Primary school by January 2020
- Finish our Primary school bathrooms by January 2020
These projects are critical for us to complete in order to add our 3rd grade classroom next year.
Please pray that God will open hearts and doors to provide the means to complete these projects.
SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS
Our current projects are the primary school bathroom and a safety wall and stairs for the school. The new septic tank for the bathrooms is well underway and the stairs are looking good. We should begin construction on the back safety wall in June.
FELLOWSHIP BIBLE CHURCH
A big thank you to Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock, Arkansas for hosting us on Sunday, May 12th. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and share the amazing work God is doing in Palacaguina. We are grateful for your continued support and partnership and we look forward to serving together another year.
PCA TODAY
This month we wanted to fill our update with pictures of what PCA looks like today. We are grateful for all of you who partner with us in prayer and support to make this ministry a reality. God is using each and every one of you to make an impact in the lives of these wonderful children and give them a brighter future. Here we have English tutoring with Abner, the playground, chapel and traditional dance day at the school.
MINISTRY OF EDUCATION VISIT
On May 28th, PCA was visited by the Ministry of Education (MINED) Managua. This is an annual visit to verify we are complying with the requirements established by Nicaraguan law for operating a school. We are happy to report, we received a positive review and they even took pictures of PCA to use as examples for other schools to follow. Praise the Lord for a good review and being allowed to continue our efforts.
TRIP TO PALACAGUINA
The next trip to Palacaguina is tentatively planned for the week of July 21st. If you or your tribe would like to accompany me, see PCA up close, meet the children, and make a personal impact on the school, contact me by June 7th at bwitonski@gmail.com. Total cost of the trip would be around $1,800 per person for a group of 10 or individually would be $1,100 + airfare.
SPONSORSHIP/SUPPORT UPDATE
19 students still need a sponsor this year. Please continue to join with us in prayer for new partners who would be willing to sponsor one or more of these wonderful children. And share with others about the good work being done in Palacaguina. They can partner with you in sponsoring a child for only $40 a month. If you have a church or group who would like a presentation on PCA and its impact, please contact me via e-mail.
PRAYER REQUESTS
- Pray every child will be sponsored for 2019
- Pray for our staff, students and families in Palacaguina
- God’s provision for our construction projects this year
PRAISE – Thank you to those who prayed and are praying for Nathan Johnston. Last month I mentioned how he suffered a head injury. We are grateful to report he is doing much better. His surgeries went well and he is on the road to recovery. He is returning to the US for a time to see a neuro ophthalmologist and for physical therapy.
THANK YOU!!!
God is so good!! And we are incredibly grateful for all of you who pray for and partner with us each month. You are the literal hands and feet of God doing the work of the kingdom. Your efforts and sacrifices make such a difference in the lives of our children and we are so thankful for you. We pray for you and your families that you are well and that each day you are aware of and know the impact you are making.
